EyeCYou
Assisstive technology for the visually impaired
One cannot overemphasize the importance and psychological effects of the information drawn by the eyes during relation and communication with others. In the words of Tarjei Vesaas, ”Almost nothing need be said when you have eyes”. If that’s the case, then what can the visually impaired do to overcome his visual shortcomings in his day to day rendezvous? Today, we propose; EyeCYou. What we propose here is not opening the window but rotating the wand just enough so that a ray of hope enters. EyeCYou will revolutionize the way a blind person interacts with other humans; it will add another dimension to their conversations. This tool when activated would assist the user by giving some information like presence of a person, reports the skin color, reports the shirt color of this individual, give the possible age group the individual belongs, reports the gender of this individual. One of the commonly asked question is how does the blind detect the color of their clothes; EyeCYou also gives an answer to this question. Currently the available features in EyeCYou are the ones listed above, feature updates will incorporate facial expression detection, presence of eyeglasses and so on based on other survey carried out. Using text to speech, the above listed information would be reported to the user given them self knowledge as they would have with normal vision. Psychologically this information is extremely useful as it helps constructing a better mental image for the visually impaired, which will help in better connecting to others emotionally, improve socializing, resulting into an improved communication and have more information about other party. Thus instead of having information transmitted from both eye to the brain, it goes through the ear to the brain.
This app runs on windows tablet currently and has an external glass/hardware which is wearable.
